Drone Registration Deadline Approaching

StaffNews7 Comments

If you own a drone, the registration deadline is approaching.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires all unmanned aircraft systems to be registered before flying outside.

If you own a Drone, you have until Feb. 19 – Friday – to register.

The federal law requires registration.

Registration is inexpensive and is valid for three years and the online process is easy.

The FAA now requires every drone, R/C aircraft owner to register aircraft (sUAS) weighing over .55lbs (just over 2 sticks of butter) and must have a compliant label for identification and carry Certificate of Registration (Flight ID). We will assist you with your registration filing, make compliant labels and flight ID card.

Anyone who owns a small unmanned aircraft of a certain weight must register with the Federal Aviation Administration’s Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) registry before they fly outdoors. People who previously operated their UAS must register by February 19, 2016. You will be subject to civil and criminal penalties if you meet the criteria to register a drone and do not register, including fines of up to $250,000.

  1. How long will it take to receive my certification?
Will this come via mail or email?

    Thank you.

    1. You will receive an email copy of your certificate typically within an hour after verification. Flight ID Cards and Labels will follow by USPS mail.

  2. I have just completed on line registration 2/20/16. I have RC aircraft that I have owned for years. I would like to repair and or finish building them and fly them. Can I be fined for flying these aircraft? Or can these models ever be flown because of registering after the deadline?
    Thanks Ken

    1. Kenneth,

You must Register and Label your existing RC Aircraft before their next flight. The deadline for existing RC Model Aircraft owners has now passed.

    1. The Deadline Date was for previously purchased Drones, sUAS, and other RC Aircraft. Moving forward you are required to Register, Label and carry your Certificate with you when operating your drone and before the first flight outdoors.

  3. If a drone is owned by a law enforcement agency, is the same application process used to get the agency’s drone registered as a civilian’s?
